Oh how I love purple! I don't know what it is but it is at once bold, mysterious, earthy and feminine all in one neat package. Posh Tots has outdone itself again offering a swanky pad for the young and wealthy to enjoy tea and cupcakes in that is separate from the main house. The Victorian Playhouse is custom-built to suit your dimensional needs for $23,400 and ships in just ten weeks -- which means you could have it in time for the holidays! Sophisticated, sweet and definitely feminine the playhouse is nice enough for country club ladies to dine in...just a bit too small. And since Posh Tots' bankruptcy filing back in January it looks as though they are doing alright now especially if just a handful of people ordered one today. Perhaps it is because I'm often drawn to classic styles, simple colors and subtle sophistication, or maybe it is because Burberry has a propensity for making fantastic handbags, but this Check Hobo is fabulous. With tiny pleats and patent leather trim the black and white nylon check pattern is encircled in high-society style. This bag is fully lined, includes inside pockets, zipper closure, and a single strap with a seven-inch drop. Classy, timeless and perfect for any occasion, the hobo is definitely for me! Interestingly the diamonds that are created do get certified by the GIA (Gem Institute of America). The diamonds are available in three distinct colors: cognac, red and yellow-green. Each stone can be cut into a Radiant, Princess or Brilliant diamond ranging in size from 0.25 to 2.0 carats. I'm just not sure I would want such a personalized piece of jewelry -- it is one thing to choose to wear someone's birthstone or a family heirloom that has been passed down but sporting someone else's DNA is a bit strange to me.

This is my first introduction to Helena de Natalio and I have to say I like what I see! The circular hobo shape makes it easy to wear for the woman on-the-go and the luscious electric blue color is divine (although it is also available in classic black). Not constrained by season in either its color or shape makes this relatively inexpensive handbag a year-round favorite. Complete with an adjustable shoulder strap that can expand from a thirteen-inch drop to a twenty-six-inch drop, two outside zipper pockets, three interior pockets and a zipper closure, this bag would make a fun addition to any ensemble for $394 available exclusively at Saks. (19" x 10" x 6")

Although not a new concept, a rich-toned python satchel is still lovely. Carlos Falchi adds a bit of his own flair cinching in a little on each side and placing the python pattern in a way that mirrors an ombre style. It is accented by goldtone hardware, double handles with a five-inch drop, a detachable shoulder strap with a 18 1/2" drop, interior pockets and pen holsters. Unfortunately this isn't a terribly unique handbag but it is still quite eye-catching for $2,910. (18" x 12" x 5")

If you ever decide to purchase a historic home in Paris and give it a few updates beware of the power of the Parisians. Prince Abdullah Bin Abdullah Al-thani of Qatar purchased a 17th century mansion back in 2007 for $88 million with plans to spend $50 million more in renovations. When word leaked that he intended to add 21st century amenities such as an elevator, central air and an underground parking garage the locals were able to secure a court order to halt his progress. Known to have housed Chopin while writing his musical masterpieces as well as Voltaire's mistress, the historically prominent property needs to be both preserved and cared for by a wealthy investor if it ever hopes to be restored to its prior glory. I don't know anything about restoring old properties but I'd be happy to keep an eye on things as a resident!

When we moved into our new house we immediately replaced all of the off-white, cheap, plastic switch plates with brushed-silvertone covers to give each room a clean and modern feel. Even the smallest of changes in a room can add to the ambiance. Too bad I didn't know about the glamorous Swarovski-crusted switch plates from Diametral. These glittery covers add sparkle to any space -- although putting them in every room of your home might be a bit much. Available in fifteen different colors including gold, silver and leaf motifs, these switch plates are anything but bland.

In many parts of U.S. it is starting to cool off and hint at the first rumblings of autumn which makes me want to get cozy with warm beverages and flickering flames. I love the concept of surrounding an open fire on the Langgrill (named for its long bowl shape) designed by the German company Liaisons. Featuring a simple tray of oxidized stainless steel sitting low to the ground on a basalt stone base, this fire pit is compact enough for a small patio but offers enough enjoyment for a crowd. The removable stainless steel grate allows for different cooking options when needed. A modern twist on an old hearth tradition -- love it! ($1,092)

Don't hesitate -- the sales may only last until the end of the month, before holiday shopping begins, and it's best to have an inside track through email lists. You can even get deals now and save them for holiday gifts!

Most of the collection is composed of white gold and diamonds but some pieces feature chocolate diamonds paired with yellow gold -- the second jewelry feature I've written about with chocolate diamonds included -- delicious!

Her budget plan includes a proposal to increase the personal income tax rate from 5% to 6.5% for those earning $500,000 or more per year and for joint filers earning $1 million or more. On the flip-side this plan would eliminate the inheritance tax which is rather appealing to those with ample funds to pass onto their heirs. This applies to estates worth $2 million or more. The Legislature will be bickering over the details -- what is your take on it?

Although the bag is made in Italy the skunk fur originates in Canada. I'm just curious but is there really a market for skunk furs?? Are they raised for this purpose or is it just a way to recycle roadkill? Although I love the neutral tones of the handbag and the significant stripe created by the skunk fur I'm just not into the idea of stinky creatures as an accessory. Russian real estate tycoon Sergei Polonsky of Mirax Group fame was quoted saying that if you weren't a billionaire you were obviously a loser but the once uber-successful Polonsky is now one of the 'L-club'. Once worth $1.2 billion and landing a spot in Forbes Magazine, Sergei's company called Mirax is now suspected to have accrued debts between $600 and $700 million! All projects have come to a screeching halt including such high-profile developments as the Federation Tower in Moscow. In January my colleague, Deidre, highlighted his sale of the five-star Sungate Port Royal hotel to help fund some of Mirax's projects. Looks like he will need to sell off a few more assets to make himself 'cool' once again since apparently sub-billionaire status makes Polonsky one of 'those' people.

I don't always feel that handbags are pieces of art but Salvatore Ferragamo's Gathered Leather Hobo inspires me to become an artist myself. From the deep curvature along the midline with surrounding pleats of red brick leather to the metallic adornments and twisted strap that complete the piece it is truly a gorgeous handbag. (Plus, the fluid curves look like they would accommodate your arm or shoulder perfectly and nestle it between the smooth leather sides). The bag also boasts a silk lining, pushlock closure, inside zipper and two open pockets, a single strap (10" drop) and detachable shoulder strap (15" drop) all for $1,790. Display this medium-sized hobo around town, on the job or in the evening -- where wouldn't you want to wear it? (16 1/2" x 15" x 3 1/2")
